After a successful foray into the Mystery Box Rally last year, our father and son duo of Trevor and Calan have been superseded and this year we are bringing out the big guns! Never one to back away from a challenge, this year it will be husband and wife taking on the challenge. That’s right, Cath will be in the hot seat (pun intended) with Trev this year. If you know us personally we know that you will have questions. They might go something like this: “Are these two mental? They will killing another before the whole thing is over” Or “If the car breaks down does Trev think that Cath has a clue (or an inclination) to help fix it?” Or “Does Cath really think that she can spend an entire week in a car with Trev telling her how to drive?” But more seriously, we would just like to make a difference and raise money to help the cancer council try and vanquish cancer once and for all. Part of the requirements for our participation is to raise a minimum of $3,500 but we hope to raise well above this amount. These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. They do some awesome work supporting people with cancer, and funding important research. Fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
