Our Story …

G’day family and friends. Please take a couple of minutes and have a read for a great cause in honour of John Thomas Mooney (The Bopper) – a mate, a proud camel owner and a genuine, top bloke that always had a beer in hand and a good story to tell. In honour of John – aka ‘THE BOPPER’ both of us – Jason Stephen and Craig Douglas, are excited to announce that on the 17th – 21st of August we are taking part in the MYSTERY BOX RALLY, 2019. Our start and finish point will be Byron Bay.

Bopper had a heart for charity, always helping out those in need in the best possible way he could. Bopper was a reliable, champion of a man, and now in honour of him, it is our turn to attempt to repay the favour.

What is the MYSTERY BOX RALLY you ask?MYSTERY BOX RALLY is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $3.5 million in the last 6 years.

The MYSTERY BOX RALLY is the mad baby brother of the SHIT BOX RALLY. In teams of two, members beat around the bush in old cars, enduring hard and tedious tracks with the goal of reaching a certain destination each day. Teams have no idea of where they’re heading but they are always ready for a unique and exciting adventure. Part of the requirements for our participation is to raise a minimum of $3,500 but we hope to raise well above this amount. ALL funds go to The Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity that does remarkable work supporting people with cancer and funding important research.

Fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly valued.

- ALL donations help

- big or small- ALL donations go directly to CANCER COUNCIL

- Our minimum was $3500 and our team target was $8000 but now with some great support we are raising the bar to $12,000.

Remember this is for a great cause (CANCER COUNCIL), I am sure we all know someone with it or that has had it.

Also, make sure to follow our progress via our Facebook posts. We will also create a “THE BOPPER” Facebook page to keep everyone updated on our journey. We really appreciate your generosity. Cheers, Jason and Craig

Here's what I'm doing …

Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

Hi all and thanks for your support so far.

We reached our $8K target a bit sooner than expected with a big chunk of that coming from Doito so a BIG Thanks to Doito.

Today 28/3/19 we took ownership of our bash car, a 1991 Subaru liberty (Suzie) with only 399500 klms (just run in). Also Auto One at Warners bay gave us massive discount to help us get Suzie bash ready.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

Over $13 million has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
