Our Story …

After such an incredible experience in the MBR 2018, we are really happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2019!!

Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $3.5 million in the last 6 years.

Part of the requirements for our participation is to raise a minimum of $3,500 but we hope to raise well above this amount. Last year we raised just over $5,000 which we were really pleased with, but we reckon with a bit of a push we could stretch that to $10,000!!

These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. They do some awesome work supporting people with cancer, and funding important research.

Fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below. We will also be selling merchandise through an online store and looking for sponsorship for various elements of the costs associated with doing the rally. If there's anything you can help with, please reach out!

Here's what I'm doing …

Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

The money has started rolling in which is awesome. Still a fair way to go though so any time now we will be taking delivery of some stubby holders and beanies which will be sold with all profits going to our we give account. Stubby holders will be $10 and beanies $20 (not worked out if that's including postage or not..... depends on the cost!)

Car prep has started - yes, despite the fact that Red Flash actually exists, a slightly newer, slightly less KM, slightly more manual version of the same car came along at a silly cheap price, so silly in fact that so long as we can get the bits needed at the right price (spares for these are becoming rare!!) then it will be eligible for the Shit Box Rally! That's our goal for next year if it makes it through this year. We just gotta make it RED! Not sure about making it flash though??

We have a charity evening coming up soon and if you're anywhere near the Mornington Peninsula we are attending the regular SN@P event - look it up on FaceBook but basically it's a bit of a car meet that happens every Saturday night at the BP Peninsula Link Southbound servo and we'll be asking for gold coin donations. If you've never been, there are some awesome cars attend for everyone to have a look at. So if you're a car fan, come along! If you have a ride you like to show off, bring that along too! We'll be there and might even be in Red Flash superhero outfits..... that will be a sight to behold :-)

Letters will be going out to potential sponsors soon. If you've received a letter and are now checking out this site, thank you for getting this far! See, it's all for a worthy cause!

We'll update more as the car progresses and the funds keep climbing. There will be some photos of our Saturday Night At Penlink (SN@P) up in the next couple of weeks.Hope to see you there!

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
