Our Story …Well, we made it through MBR 2018 without needing a divorce and we are back again! I (Kirsty) will have to watch out for those cattle grids this year.. it got a little emotional in the car last year when I hit one at a decent speed (oops). But seriously, we both had such a good time on the rally last year and were overwhelmed by the comradery.
Last year we scraped in, raising the $3,500 needed to join the convoy (big thanks to Fane and Kelly for their efforts with the raffle, and Mrs K for her hospitality skills at our BBQs). This year we are aiming to raise more and although fundraising is the hardest part, it is the main purpose of the event.
Cancer affects soooo many people.. it seems impossible to not know someone who has been effected by it. We have people in our families and our circle of friends who have been effected. The box rallies group raise well over $1million every year and this money goes towards ground breaking research for improved diagnosis and treatment for cancer. For more information on the groups fundraising and to see the allocation for where these donations go, have a look at the write up on the website - https://www.mysteryboxrally.com.au/the-cause/.So ditch that extra pint of pale ale (note to self!) and hit the donate button. Every little bit will helps!
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
