Our Story …
Tim and Pat's adventures in car travel has been a interesting one. It has involved one of this duo almost driving into a wall on the highway to Byron Bay, and the other almost driving into a wall because his teammate threw up on him from the back seat. See if you can guess who is who!
What better way to write the next chapter in this story than the Mystery Box Rally 2019, where we'll be driving our newly purchased but very old 1985 Jaguar XJ on a mystery route through the desert for 5 days. We have, however, been assured that wherever we are going there are almost no walls to hit, which can only be a point in our favor.
The Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia, and has raised over $3.5 million in the last 6 years. We hope to raise $6000 for the Cancer Council, who are doing awesome work around the country in supporting people with cancer, and funding vital research.
Our team will be called the B flat Battlers! Something about playing in a band in high school + flat as in tyre + battling describing our likely behavior for the entire rally. So we named ourselves that... and then realized we couldn't change it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated! Also, we will be posting updates in the lead up to and during the rally so please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below!

Here's what I'm doing …
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
